The thread title says it all! If you have not heard the recent news about Phoenix Emulator, you can find it here:

Habbo Hotel emulator developer in court | MMO and MMORPG News, Games , Trailers and More

Anyways, that being said, what do you think retros will come to now? With Phoenix development being terminated, a lot of hotels have disappeared for obvious reasons. I'd like to say maybe 85-90% of people nowadays used Phoenix for emulation of their Habbo Server. Without the "noob" friendly emulator, beginners now have to learn the fun advanced stuff to get a good retro going. Do you think Sulake will start taking action on bigger hotels? Do you think this is just Sulake giving the retro community a scare? Let the community know what you think will happen next!

To be honest, I think it's only the beginning. If you've got anything big to do with the the section watch your back. I'm sure if they're gonna go after Aaron it would be silly to think they aren't going to go after the big hotels.

If sulake wins against Aaron, they'll be able to easily court order every retro down.

It's sad it came to this. Teenagers making a legit living from "copies" of a once great game.

Maybe it would have been different if this shit hadn't got so commercialized.

The feel back in 2007-2009 was great, we actually helped each other and tried to learn, now you all just want to make money, and this is what you get.

This section will always be my childhood, but I'm glad I only moderate here now.

This x 100. I remember the days when GoldenShox, DonkJam, PunkLessons, Nillus, and everyone else who contributed back in the day. As of now, I really don't know what to expect, only time will tell I guess.

We'll see what will happen.
But to be honest in my opinion it was just too easy to setup a retro nowadays.
I've startet with retros at the time of Holograph, so I had to learn about how to compile some code etc.
Today, little children just rent a VPS, BUY themselfs a CMS with a EMU (Phoenix) and they're done.
Therefore there are/were so many noob retros.

Good old Open Source :)

So the best would be to get back to that, but I don't think it will happen, because noone/few want to help each other anymore.
Also for the moment it seems to be the best just to wait what are the next steps of sulake.

As long as Habbo is alive there will be retros. The question is: Who will be making a decent emulator that gets updated like phoenix?

Retro's were once run for the joy of having free credits, closer communities and more freedom to do what you like.

Nowadays retro's are just run for profit.

Sulake isn't making a profit any more and needs to start taking some sort of action to try bring back users. Remember Sulake is under new ownership "Elisa" so it's up to them which direction Sulake goes.

In terms of Phoenix being discontinued, I think hotels can move over to butterfly (bcstorm). It's a good starting point, open source, and there are plenty of bug fixes posted across the forum.

I think now Phoenix has gone it will open the field up for more developments. It will force people to look that little bit further and consider developing there own emulators instead of resulting back to Phoenix all the time. Back in the old days it was like that before Phoenix and other licensed emulators came along; Phoenix was quite clearly a convient option for most people as they wouldn't have to worry about keeping the emulator up-to-date (I'm guilty of this myself with some of my old hotels).

Saying that though now Sulake have took some serious action and shook the cage I think people will not chance it incase they get Sulakes full force on them; no doubt this was all part of the plan.. cut the source of most hotels and then scare the community shitless so they all run in the opposite direction. I don't think this is going to help Sulake most people will not return to Habbo because it is not fun anymore - you feel like a animal captured in a cage nowadays.

Theres my part of the puzzle.

A lot of you seem to believe sulake is just trying to scare you.

They're trying to take down the big fish, if they're successful they'll easily take down the small fries.

That's why I've said that I want to wait what sulake will do next.

I agree, honestly only time will tell - Aaron gets sent down then people will be too scared to create emulators and retro's will likely be a thing of the past apart from the advanced few that use private emulators, even then I can predict that they will be short lived, let me tell you what sulake is going to do from here on out.

Send out more DMCA & Cloudflare warnings to make people scared that they will be sued/shutdown after whats happened with Aaron so instead of just deleting the email and continuing what they're doing they will take caution and maybe even close the project all together.

Saying this, I know there are plenty of other emulators out there available to use but for how much longer will they be around or updated? are you going to tell me that your hotel with 1k + users online are not going to get fed up of the same version of habbo forever if none makes anymore emulators? No good can come of this.

This will be the start of a whole new revolution. Many people are switching over to open-source servers. The source being understandable and available will make more people inquisitive about Habbo servers, thus changing it around to their liking, learning how to use a programming language, thus more unique hotels.

Theoretically yes, but practically no one will do it...

Many will surely be switching over to bcstorm but you can't really just 'switch', you need to convert your db. So basically, the one thing we need are a converter for converting phoenix db to butterfly/bcstorm db and some bugfixes for the current bugs on BcStorm. :)

Personally, I say it's a good thing. If you don't have the experience to get it all going yourself at least in the slightest way with a free, open-source emulator then you shouldn't own a hotel because it will just go down shit's creek. Sulake will not do anything for a while after this. I can guarantee that Sulake does not know about most of the bigger hotels. Considering if you report a hotel, they don't even say anything about it, they just say, "Okay, thank you for reporting, we'll look into it as soon as possible." Their moderators might as well say, "Take a piece of paper, and write a letter to someone who gives a fuck, I'm just here to collect my paycheck."

This will probably stop the stupid little kids, who took out daddy's big boy credit card to buy a server, from owning hotels, you know, the L33t ub3r h4x0rs who think they're so "badass" because they can boot hotels and then they think they can magically gain users from doing that. This is a new age of Habbo Retros, and I think there's a rough road ahead that will allow only the toughest to survive. The amount of retros was just getting too high and the user counts on retros were getting smaller and smaller because of the fact that the users were being distributed to different retros voluntarily just because they want the one, the only, the big kahuna Staff Job that really is just a pain in the ass to begin with and is 90% of the time, all drama.

Aaron's plan for Phoenix was like the Death Star. It was amazing, practically indestructible, except that one little loop-hole that fucked him over which was the fact that he charged people for it instead of releasing it for free. If it was free, he could have deleted it all and cut his losses, but now there are records, bills of sale, etc. PayPal can sometimes be your PayEnemy. ;)

LOL, Are you joking? Learn? That's too much work for them. They need someone to hold their hand and say, "It's okay, Aaron will fix it when he has the time. Yes he will. Yes he will! Oh! What's that? Got your noseeee!" Like I'd said, only the strong will survive in this next age of Habbo Retro Development, and I'm sorry to say about 80% of Pheonix users will just drop everything and say fuck it because they're weak now. Their users are scattering to other hotels as we speak while all their EMUs are down.

I ain't scared of no Sulake. I understand where you're coming from, but I think they will only go after a few hotels and just drop it. They could just go down the list of TheHabbos, but is it really worth the time? If they really want to go after us. Just take down the TopSites lists, and they'd have to get rid of DevBest, Other Crap Forums, and, oh lord, RaGEZONE. I don't think MentaL would just let them "walk all over him" like they did with Aaron in a sort. I think if they're going after us, we oughta put up a fight. Not in the sense of #FREESOJOBO or #FUCKSULAKE, but in the sense that we should start researching and finding the loopholes within law. They want to walk all over us because most of us are young and teenagers, and some of you are right. They want to give us a good scare, but here's how I see it. They're trying to get their money's worth before they shut down, so unless you're ringing in money by the assload, then you should be fine. They're not going to try and squeeze an empty bottle of ketchup (or toothpaste whatever you want to use as an analogy).
